Jack Piper takes on the corners at Croft

Tuesday, July 6th, 2010

Jack Piper reports to the Blog on his latest racing weekend at Croft;

“Rounds 5 and 6 of the Formula Renault BARC championship saw me make the long trip north to Croft. It was always going to be a tricky challenge because it’s a new circuit for me and unlike most other tracks there’s no practice sessions over the race weekend.

Having never driven a lap of the circuit I had to use qualifying to familiarise myself with the track which meant I was unable to get the best out of my new tyres. My pace quickly improved with each lap and while I had to settle for 14th place on the grid I managed to out-qualify the other drivers who were new to the circuit, which the team were pleased with.

Race One

In contrast to the blue skies and sunshine in qualifying, race one on Sunday took place in very windy and overcast conditions. I got away from the line very well and managed to make up a place within the first few corners. The strong winds made it difficult through the faster bends, which caught out a few of the other drivers. A collision half way through the race saw the safety car come out, bunching the field up.

This gave me the chance to get right up behind the cars in front, but also allowed the cars behind to close up on me. After the restart I took advantage of a couple of mistakes in front of me and made up several places to move up to ninth where I stayed despite having to defend hard against the chasing pack. It meant another top ten finish on a new track which we were all very happy about.

Race Two

I made another good start in race two and felt able to push the car much harder because I was more comfortable with the track. My pace was pretty good before another safety car towards the end of the race allowed me to get right on the back of the cars ahead. After some close racing I managed to dive down the inside of the car in front on the final lap to move up to 12th place. It wasn’t the top 10 result I’d hoped for, but given the disadvantage of never having driven at Croft it was another step in the right direction.

I now look forward to rounds 7 and 8 at my local track Snetterton at the end of July. Having had a few test days at Snetterton I hope to be right back on the pace and much further up the field. Look forward to seeing you there”.

Competition Winner Celebrates £12,000 of Home Improvements

Friday, May 7th, 2010

 Press Release

Life for Leeds resident Miss Sarah Chapple, from Kirkstall, has just got much greener after winning £10,000 of new energy-efficient windows, and an additional £2000 for scrapping her old glazing, in a recent competition run by Anglian Home Improvements.

Readers of a national newspaper were invited to describe the benefits of how the new windows and doors would improve the efficiency of their home in only 5 words. Sarah fought off the other entrants to win with: ‘greener, energy saving and sustainably stylish’.

Sarah explained how it felt when she heard the news: “It was absolutely fantastic!  I had been cajoled into entering the competition by a friend after reading about household sustainability and was really surprised to receive a letter from Anglian Home Improvements saying that I’d won.

“They sent round a surveyor and we discussed the options for my new windows and doors.  I chose to have a mahogany wood-finish which works really well with the brick work on the house.“

Poor insulation in the home can mean households consume – and pay for – more energy than needed, with 18% of the average energy bill being made up of energy lost through poor insulation.  And it’s not just money being wasted; energy efficient windows also reduce emissions from homes by up to 10%, so replacing old ones will also help the environment.

Melanie McDonald, Head of Marketing and Communications at Anglian Home Improvements, said: “As an industry leader we are offering homeowners immediate support to ensure they can make their homes ‘greener’ through our national windows scrappage scheme, which allows for the replacement of inadequately insulated windows with new energy efficient ones, enabling UK householders like our competition winner Sarah Chapple, to retain more heat while actually spending less heating their homes. For a limited period we have increased the scrappage scheme offer to £2,500 which makes the incentives for energy saving even better. ”

Commenting on the difference the new windows have made to her house, Sarah said: “I am really impressed with the quality, they are so much better than the ones I had before and I have already noticed the difference with how much heat they keep in.”
