The Cancer Brown Dog charity was formed in 2000 by former cancer patients Mark Storer with Peter Little and Anil Patel.
The aim of the charity is to raise much needed funds for men, women and children that suffer from Cancer. Every penny raised goes towards helping someone less fortunate.
Anglian recently sponsored Natalie May who was one of 62 people that came together to raise money for the charity by completing an incredible walk which covered 8 peaks within the Peak District and finishing at Scafell Pike peak. That’s 24 miles in 14 hours which is a phenomenal challenge.
Natalie speaking after the walk had this to say:
“Everything went really well thank you. We started off at 4am and despite the training that I had undertaken, nothing could have prepaired me for the challenge that lay ahead. We achieved our goal of climbing 8 mountains in 14 hours, the last mountain being Scafell Pike – the highest peak in England!! It was an amazing day and I am very proud to have been a part of a team of volunteers who between us raised just over £69,000.00 for the Brown Dog Charity raising money for people with Cancer, a cause very close to my heart, thankyou Anglian Home Improvements for sponsoring me along with many members of Anglian staff.”

If you didn’t know that South Africa 2010 kicks off tomorrow you must have been reading a very good novel! The sheer magnitude of the event coupled with the unprecedented media coverage has made South Africa 2010 one of the biggest sporting events of all time.
Turn the radio on, TV, or log onto your new shiny Ipad and within seconds you become overwhelmed and inundated by World Cup content from the smallest marketing gimmicks to full on campaign.
World Cup fever has also crept its way into the Anglian Call Centre where management and staff alike have got into the spirit of South Africa 2010.
Desks have been decorated with the participating nation’s flags, colours and stats! Special football themed dress down days are planned throughout the World Cup with proceeds going to charity.
With around 30 days of international football kicking off this Friday it will be 4 weeks of sporting drama to remember. This Saturday at 7.30pm myself and probably most of the country will be supporting England and hoping they go all the way!
So, another year and another classic car rally at the Anglian Windows Sports & Social Club! Taking place last Sunday at the club and its grounds in Norwich, I popped down to see what beauties were in store for us in 2010. Don’t worry – being the only member of the online team here at Anglian with a great passion for cars, I wasn’t too fussed to be working on a Sunday
Similar to last year’s car rally it was drizzling most of the day but the faces I saw were far from drab. Everyone seemed to be having a great time, whether it was checking out the old Ford Capris in their various shades of 70s beige, trying to get in that Italian Job pose with the vast number of Minis about or just simply admiring the diversity of different car models to see.
There were various stalls selling food and drinks as well as a raft of people selling their old wares, but I am sure you’re all mainly hoping for a few pictures of the aforementioned cars! So without further ado, here is a selection of pictures I took on the day…
Lovely VW Camper van with accompanying trailer
Capris
Some rather beautiful ‘American muscle’ cars!
On our travels round we also saw a rather nice vintage 1985/86 5.3L 12V Jaguar XJS, which was for sale for just over £2000. With only 93,000 on the clock it looked like a bit of a bargain but I managed to stop myself getting carried away when I saw how many more cars there were to visit
The lovely Jaguar
There were loads more cars around and I’ve posted some more pictures for your viewing pleasure below.
A huge range of cars from all around the world were at the rally
The Anglian Classic Car rally happens every year in June and we hope to see you all there in 2011 for more car spotting and stories! Hope you enjoyed the pictures!

An African holiday is going to be anything but sun and beaches for Cambridge’s installation manager Daniel Moore.
Daniel Moore getting ready for Enduro Africa
Although there will be an element of both, Daniel’s eight days riding on South Africa’s Eastern Cape in October will be a challenge! Together with other motorbike riders he will be taking on Enduro Africa. It will see them ride from Port Elizabeth to Durban along what is known as the wild coast. The 2,000 kilometre offroad trip, to raise money for four charities, will take in river crossings, steep ascents of mountains and rough terrain, as well as riding on beaches.
“Enduro Africa is a unique and challenging motorcycle adventure in aid of 4 amazing causes – UNICEF, Sentebale – The Princes’ Fund for Lesotho, the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund and Touch Africa”.
Daniel decided to undertake the ride after a friend successfully completed Enduro Africa two years ago, other participants have included Princes William and Harry.
Meeting the challenge not only requires a certain amount of doggedness in the saddle, Daniel is hoping to raise £5,000. “Riders from all over the world take part,” he explained. “The money we raise goes partly to the charities, but it also funds buying the motorbikes we will be riding. “At the end of Enduro Africa the bikes are donated to local medical charities to help people like doctors and aid workers get to isolated villages to treat their patients. “We ride for 10 hours everyday. On day six we have a rest while the bikes are serviced. On that day we go to a local village and help with a project through one of the four charities we are supporting – Touch Africa”. “Last year the riders repaired and decorated a school and put together desks and chairs.”
A keen biker, Daniel’s usual riding takes in going to work, holidays or bike festivals. “I have had some great sponsorship from colleagues at Anglian already,” he added. “But it is quite a challenge to raise £5,000 and more help would be greatly appreciated please. “People can donate online at www.dans-enduroafrica-2010.co.uk, via a link to paypal.”

With the general election next month the Blog Team wanted to find out some more about the environmental policies of each party and whether any of these would impact on the Double Glazing Industry.
Below is a guest post from Better Generation written by Dom. Better Generation was established in Spring 2006 with one main focus, make mircogeneration affordable. Better Generation has become one of the most active independent web communities in the UK. More recently Better Generation has featured on BBC2, BBC3, Channel 4, The Guardian, The Telegraph and most recently Channel 4’s Grand Designs Magazine.
This gave us the Blog Team a better understanding of the environmental policies and hopefully it helps you to. The article written by Better Generation will be split into three separate blogs each focusing on a particular political party. Today we will look at Labours pledges:
Gareth Williams and his friends have succeeded with their epic cycle journey from Lands End to John O’Groats in memory of best friend Nathan Bray who died of bowel cancer last year.

The 6 cyclists took ten days to complete the 874 mile journey and is the greatest distance between any two points in Great Britain.

Throughout the journey friends, family and members of the public continued to donate money to a special Just Giving page setup for the fundraising journey. So far a massive £10,195.00 has been raised!

After the event Gareth then jumped on a train and went to London and took part in Sunday’s marathon and managed to finish in an extremely respectful 4hrs and 45 minutes. This is an amazing accomplishment and the Blog Team have got to say a massive well done to everyone involved!
A man has been denied permission to build a conservatory at his property after planning officers decided that the structure would be overbearing on the applicant’s neighbours.
The Guardian’s Cardiff blogger Hannah Waldram stated that David Hobbs, from Clos Y Bryn, Rhwbina was not given permission to build the conservatory after a lengthy application process.
The Anglian Blog Team have previously reported on the problems that may arise with planning permission. Cliff Richard was forced to take down his conservatory due to irregularities in the planning process.
People considering investing in a conservatory or verandah from Anglian will get expert advice throughout the planning application process from the company’s advisers.
“But a petition was also submitted on behalf of the applicant – Mr Hobbs and his partner gathered 65 names in support of the conservatory – although planning officers highlighted only two of these names were from the Rhwbina area,” she reported.
Anglian has plenty of experience when it comes to dealing with applications and was recently presented with an award to celebrate the processing of its 5,000th e-planning application using the government’s planning portal.

A visit to Loddon in January showed Group finance director Phil Tweedie just why the village is such a safe neighbourhood. Last year Anglian sponsored the Safer Neighbourhood Team of the Year award at the NOSCAs (Norfolk Safer Community Awards).
Phil Tweedie and PC Kevin Nightingale of Loddon’s Safer Neighbourhood Team with PC Sally Hammerton.
The winning team were Loddon’s PC Robert Hipperson, with PCSOs Donna Boggis. Kevin Nightingale and Christopher Rose. Phil, accompanied by marketing’s Melanie McDonald, saw just what a difference the team had made to people’s lives.
To begin with they are not based at the police station, but have an office at Loddon High School – putting them at the heart of the community. “We saw how this helps to make the team more approachable,” explained Phil. “The young people at the school get used to them and will talk to them if they have problems. “They also hold twice weekly surgeries at the local library where people can sit and have a chat. “They are more like the old fashioned bobby on the beat that everyone knew and would pass the time of day with.” Success in bringing people together to talk situations through can be seen with the example of young people gathering together in the evenings with their scooters. They were creating noise and were seen by an elderly resident and a young mum as a real nuisance.
The Safer Neighbourhood Team talked to the young people and recognised that they needed somewhere to meet. They also introduced the residents and the youngsters to each other. During the meeting both sides became people, rather than antagonists. It ended with the youngsters agreeing to cut down the noise. As a gesture of friendship they gave the elderly resident a box of chocolates in way of a peace offering. “The success this team has made to the safety and security people enjoy makes us very proud that Anglian sponsored their well deserved award,” added Phil.

Anglian Home Improvements sponsored BARC driver Jack Piper brings us the race report from Brands Hatch:
“We managed to achieve our first target for the season by recording a top ten finish out of sixteen cars at Brands Hatch in the opening round of the Formula Renault BARC championship.
Although the team were pretty pleased, it could have been even better after another day of mixed fortunes.
My first race was wrecked when I was taken out on only the second lap. I was making my way through Paddock Hill bend when another guy drove straight into me, sending us both spinning into the gravel.
He apologised after the race, but it was really frustrating because I’d made a decent start. Luckily there wasn’t too much damage and the team were able to repair the car and clean it up ready for race two.
I got away pretty well again and soon made up a few places. This time I stayed out of trouble as a couple of other guys found themselves going off for various reasons and I managed to make my way up from 14th to ninth.
Towards the end of the race I had a few problems braking and lost a place on the final lap so had to settle for tenth. While we’d have been happy with a top ten finish before the weekend, I was a bit disappointed but it’s not a bad start and gives us plenty to build on for the next meeting at Silverstone in three weeks”.
Jack
The Anglian Blog Team will be following Jack’s progress this year. The next race will be in three weeks at Silverstone.
