South East In State Of Drought

The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs has declared the South East of England is now in a state of drought.

The announcement was made after a summit held amid fears that water levels in certain parts of England have become lower than they were back in 1976.

Now that the South East has joined most of Eastern England to have serious drought concerns, the Environment Department has brought together many water companies, farmers and wildlife groups to discuss how to be prepared for a potential water shortage.

Personally, this sounds like the perfect time to dust off those water butts and get them outside in your garden, under the drain pipe. Why let all that precious rainwater that’s fallen on your house disappear straight down the drain, when you could save it for a sunny day? Especially when we’re predicted all these hose-pipe bans during the summer months!

When you’re replacing gutters and downpipes, there’s no better time to include a water butt, stand and diverter, plumbed in and ready for use in the garden.

It’s a brilliant way to keep your garden watered throughout the year, without having to run tap water for use in the garden. It’ll save you money if your water is metered and it’s also kinder to the environment, helping to conserve water at the same time as keeping your garden healthy and flourishing all year long.
