RHS Britain In Bloom Finalists – Rosliston

Here is another finalist from Rosliston for Britain In Bloom which is supported by Anglian Home Improvements.

The name of the project is called Planters for Permanent Planting which will be located on the high street.

Here is their description of the project:

At one of the main entrances to the village are some old wooden planters on the side of the main street which have been used for shrubs and bedding displays. We want to replace these with permanent brick planters in the shape of raised beds these will be planted with cottage garden type perennial plants which will be more environmentally friendly, be attractive throughout the year to wildlife, birds, bees, insects and butterflies.
The work will be carried out by one of the villagers thus helping local employment the planting and future maintenance will be carried out by the In Bloom volunteers two of which are working towards their Duke of Edinbirgh awards gaining environmental knowledge from projects like this.
The soil in the old planters will be recycled into the new ones the plants have been bought as plugs and developed in the In Bloom polytunnel extra plants if required will be sourced from a local plant nursery.
The finalists banner will be displayed by the project while the work is being carried out as this is one of the main new projects for this season.
This project will provide an attractive low maintenance environmentally friendly display at a main entrance to the village helping us promote the In Bloom campaign and welcome visitors to our village.
