My First Norfolk Showground Visit With Anglian

It felt like a slightly long day in my opinion. To start off with, I had to take the pool car to pick up my colleague (Louie), and then make our way to the Showground from there, but looking back it would have been so much easier (and cheaper) to just walk rather than drive. We were roughly a 30 second drive from the Showground entrance, when we got stuck in traffic. We sat in the queue for just over 30 minutes. I could have just stepped out of the car and walked the rest of the distance towards the Showground and would have arrived there much quicker than sitting within all the traffic, but for a showcase event like this you shouldn’t expect it to be quiet.

Finally, we managed to pass through and pay our parking fee (£6) which I thought was a little expensive, but then if you’re planning on spending the whole day there, then the price is reasonable.

The final task was to find a car space. We thought this would take ages, but the stewards were quick and efficient, and found us a car space very near to the Norwich Entrance, which was very handy for us, as our tickets were there waiting for us.

As we walked through the gate, we were bombarded with crowds going in every direction and I almost lost Louie in the crowds.

Crowds at the Noroflk Showground

I had been before to the Norfolk Showground a few years ago when I was in college, but didn’t get a chance to look around then due to having to go straight to one of the food tents where we had a restaurant set up, I was there to serve customers and I had the pleasure of waiting on a few, but anyway, back to the blog.

There were so many stalls I couldn’t believe it! As soon as you came to the end of one path, there were three more that appeared. I kept losing my bearings.

Luckily for many parents, there was loads of entertainment for the children to help keep them busy. You had everything from inflatable slides to climbing frames. They even had those inflatable balls in a huge paddling pool and the children could roll around in them and not get wet! It was brilliant.

We had a good walk around most of the areas, and went into a couple of tents which had loads of little stalls selling everything from hand-painted boxes to flattened glass bottles transformed into clocks. I was almost tempted to buy my boyfriend one for his ‘man-cave’ but then decided not to as I didn’t want to encourage him too much.

We stopped over at the Anglian Stand and had a little chat with Alastair Roy who was the Regional Events Manager. It was nice to see a few people around the stand too looking at the products and having a chat with the other Anglian employees.

We were also informed that Princess Anne was their, but unfortunately didn’t get a chance to see her. Maybe next year.

We carried on walking around and managed to see a few demonstrations of dog shows, rabbit catching by using ferrets (that one didn’t really appeal to me as the ferrets scared me a little, they looked slightly evil, but each to their own.), and even watched a horse jumping show as well. It was amazing to see these huge animals jumping so high over the rails.

We also came across the Team Lotus plot where I took loads of photo’s of the cars to show my manager as he is a huge Lotus fan and knew it would wind him up! Plus we managed to see the new Norwich City Football Premier League kit too.

As we kept walking around, I couldn’t believe how big the whole event was. As soon as we thought we had seen everything there was to see, we would turn the corner and be met with another area full of amusements, stands and presentations. It felt like it never ended!

We also came across a miniature petting zoo with an Alpaca, pygmy goats, a cow with her calf and even saw an incubator with loads of chicken eggs waiting to be hatched. They were so cute! They had a holding area just behind it with all the chicks that had been hatched earlier on in the day. I even had the pleasure of holding one. It may sound strange to you but that was the highlight of my day as I had never had the opportunity to do that.

Overall, the day was lovely, especially with the weather as whilst we were there, it had not rained a drop unlike the poor East of England show my colleague attended. If you’ve never been before then I would definitely recommend going either for a family day out, school trip or just with your friends. A word of warning though, just be aware of the fact that it is not really the ‘cheapest’ day out (unless you bring drinks and a packed lunch with you), and be ready to queue for a long time to use the facilities, if the organisers read this, please provide a few more next year. But nevertheless, it was a very enjoyable day and will without a doubt, go again!
