International Motocross for Daniel Brooks

It has been a while since we last heard from Daniel and his Dad, Matt, but here is what they have been up to the last few weeks!

Several weeks ago we had a 2 day international meeting at the famous road racing venue Mallory Park in Leicestershire, using the same track that was used for the British MX Grand Prix in 2009.

It was a big challenge for all the entrants, especially for the smaller bikes as some of the jumps were huge and the track surface was very loose; that said Dan was more than happy with all that was going on.

Big air
We arrived Friday afternoon in lovely sunshine, but in the middle of the night the rain thumped down on the camper roof leading us into a wet start on Saturday. It was very constant drizzle being pushed in on a very strong wind, making everyone very wet, very quickly.

Racing alongside another race
Practise went well and we went straight into the first set of races. Dan made a mediocre start, but after a few corners he worked his way into the top ten, eventually finishing a great eight place, against a very good standard grind and riders that he hadn’t come across before.

Daniel and Matt
In the second race Dan had a great start and came around the first corner in 5th place, where he stayed until the race end. All was going very well even though we were a little wet and cold.

It had dried out a little for the last race, but Dan got stuck at the gate and was dead last away. Again with a great ride he made his way forward to a creditable 10th place to end the day a happy little man.

Battling through the field
Sunday morning came and conditions appeared a little better, but this didn’t last as the heavens opened at the start of the first race and all of us got totally drenched. That said, Dan had a good start in the middle of the pack and moved into a comfortable 7th place where he stayed until the chequered flag was waved.

Daniel coming round a corner
The same result occurred in the second race of the day with Dan in a great dice with four other riders all fighting for 6th place, but disaster struck in the last race with Dan running a comfortable 5th place. He lost the back end of his bike accelerating onto the fast finishing straight and fell very awkwardly on his wrist that he broke back in May. After a few tears he did get back on his bike and he did manage to finish, but sadly two laps down in last place wrecking his overall result. Despite this he still collected a trophy for 9th place, a great result considering the company he raced with on the track.

Big jumps

Make sure you check back soon as we have more reports to come from Matt and Daniel. Last weekend there was more racing and as always lots more action!
