Anglian Sponsor Angel Road Junior School Book Vouchers
At Angel Road Junior School it is Governors week. This is a week where the students have special guests come in to talk about their jobs, how they achieved it, how you have to work hard to achieve it and how you can improve your work. Along with the visits of special guests, the pupils of Angel Road Junior School have been doing some creative writing in groups and individually, with the most creative and progressed students being awarded with a big gold star and a book voucher.
Anglian Home Improvements sponsored £240 to Angel Road Junior School’s book vouchers, which has given the children a great incentive to improve their writing and reap the rewards. Twenty children, aged from 7-11, year groups 3-6, were chosen by the teachers for their hard work, creativeness, team work and progression with their writing.
It was strange being back at school and I was nervous about standing in front of the hundreds of pupils. All of them seemed very keen to hear what we had to say. Either that or they had clocked the gold stars and were intrigued as to how they can get one. I remember being that age and getting gold stars for good work too, so I was just as excited as the children about the sparkly stars, and felt privileged that I could give them out. Melanie McDonald, Head of PR and Communications was there with me to give out the prizes, after she had told them all about the great work that Anglian do. Gasps of excitement echoed through the hall as the 20 pupils were called out one by one, with each child coming up to receive their prize with great big grins on their faces. They then proudly stood on the stage with their shiny star and voucher, ready with a cheek to cheek grin for the picture.
The pupils have been lucky enough to have the Lord Mayor of Norwich and BBC reporter Clive Lewis visit, and give them handy tips from their trade, including asking good questions as a journalist and what it is like being the Lord Mayor of Norwich. I am sure it would have been just as interesting for the teachers, as well as all of the students to have such influential speakers come in, and one they can use in future life.
From everyone at Anglian, we wish the students of Angel Road Junior School the best of luck, there is definitely a few budding journalists there.
