The Celebrity World Of Solar
Solar power is the energy of the future, it is free to generate, using the suns rays to create electricity and hot water, but it is not yet a mainstream energy source. In California, USA, Hollywood star Edward Norton proposed an idea to BP solar whilst purchasing his own solar panels. Each time a celebrity joins the BP Solar Neighbours Program by buying a BP Solar Home Solution, BP will donate a solar system to a low-income family in California.
Since ‘The Incredible Hulk’ star Edward Norton proposed this idea, it has been a great success with the likes of actors Tom Hanks and Brad Pitt coming on board, comedy actor Will Ferrell and singer song writer, Jack Johnson also installing solar panels to power their homes.
Since this scheme was launched in 2003 there has been hundreds of stars sign up to it, as well as many low income families benefitting from this economical scheme and cheaper energy bills for the future.
The fact is everybody is trying to be more eco-friendly, everybody wants to lower their carbon footprint and it is not just celebrities, but also Royalty! Prince Charles has installed photovoltaic solar panels onto the roof of Clarence House to make his home more energy efficient. I am sure he is not too worried about the cost of bills, but he still wants to help the world.
England international footballer Rio Ferdinand recently talked about how he is a great believer in living in a sustainable environment and is even building a green home. He is currently the face of E.ON’s Energy Fit Programme and wants to help educate the world in how to be more energy conscious.
Pirates of the Caribbean star Jonny Depp took a green home a step further when he bought an island in the Bahamas in 2005 (yes, a whole island) and is turning it into a sustainable paradise to be run completely off solar energy! His home will power itself and Jonny Depp can enjoy his free energy on his own luxury island. Anyone jealous? I am!
