Home Improvements Projects ‘Best Left to the Professionals’
Extreme home improvements should be left to the qualified professionals, one expert has suggested.
With the nation still struggling to recover from the recession, and the weather improving, many people will most probably start to begin elaborate home improvement projects, such as installing double glazed windows and doors.
However the UK manager at MyHammer, Jim Hustwit, says that these particular jobs which involve compromising the structure of a wall should be left to those who know exactly what they’re doing.
“Obviously when it comes to putting up minor DIY tasks like shelves for example, there is a little bit more leeway, but knocking down walls etc, we would advise against that. If it is a load-bearing wall then it is possible it could bring the house down,” he said.
I think it would be best to keep accidents down to a minimal to avoid inconvenient trips to A&E. Plus it also saves you from hearing those four little words that every wife and girlfriend says to their partner at some time or another. ‘I told you so.’
A typical example of what could go wrong, is the adverts that B&Q have been showing recently with the public recording themselves doing DIY around the house. My favourite clip is the one at the very end of the advert, where a man knocks a post down which is holding, what looks like some type of shelter outside, and the whole roof falls down. Luckily he runs away from it but only to trip over the wheelbarrow!
Mr Hustwit has advised that certain home improvements, such as double glazed windows, can be a great way to improve the value of a property with minimal financial outlay.
Anglian Home Improvements specialise in double glazing and high quality replacement windows and have been trading since 1966.
