Aberdeen City Council Looks to Install Solar Panels

Aberdeen City Council is planning to install solar panels on publically-owned buildings, which could potentially save them roughly £100,000 a year. With that much saving, image how many pairs of shoes you could buy!

Solar Panels for Aberdeen

According to The Press and Journal, there have been proposals to outline a scheme so they can add solar panels to 90 properties which include not only homes, but schools and community centres as well.

Aberdeen City Council’s finance committee are currently considering particular contractors to start on this project, with the main focus being that the solar panels need to be big and powerful enough so they can generate enough power for the buildings to use. I wonder if they’ve considered Anglian Home Improvements to do the job for them?

Councillor Ian Yuill who is the finance and resources vice-convener, has mentioned that in these particular financial times, this move could give the local authority some breathing space.

He said “If the council had the capital resources, I would be delighted to spend and get the whole benefit, but it’s not realistic. This way it’s a win for the council in terms of lower bills, a win for the environment and also a win for the company.”

The City Council of Stoke-on-Trent have recently announced that they too are planning to put solar panels (a total of 198 to be exact!) over the rooftop of it’s Civic Centre.
