Royal Wedding Celebrations Could Increase Risk of Home Damage & Theft

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past couple of months, I’m sure you’re aware of the Royal wedding which is taking place tomorrow.

According to some research by Axa, roughly a fifth of Britons are planning to open their homes for family and friends to come and celebrate the marriage of Kate Middleton (or Catherine, as she will soon be called) and Prince William.

The research states that, during the royal wedding celebrations, homeowners are more likely to be at risk of receiving damage to their windows and doors! This will mean that there could be an increase in demand for replacement or repaired windows and doors once the celebrations have subsided.

The other risk homeowners could endure(and this is a big one) would be theft for those who are leaving their own home to go to a street party or another type of event.

Axa home insurance underwriting manager James Barclay said: “We don’t want to pour cold water on everybody’s fun but people need to be aware of the risks before their holiday or party turns into an expensive claim. Our stats suggest that over three quarters of us will not be concerned about the potential for burglary or damage over the royal wedding.

Figures from Axa have indicated that levels of crime and attempted theft goes up by 50% on key annual events, for example, Halloween, Bonfire Night and New Year’s Eve.

So it might just be worthwhile double checking your windows are completely shut and locked, and both the back and front door are locked as well before you make that momentous trip to your neighbour’s BBQ party for the most anticipated royal wedding of the century!
